Feel free to type them into the little chat box on the side and will get back to those at the end of the presentation so feel free to respond to any of our questions. Just like right now, so here's an overview of what will be talking about today. We're going to do a little bit about.
What the school social welfare is all about what about our MSW program open about our PhD program and other programs and then also are going to touch on the application process scholarships and things like that, and then we'll go to your questions and answers.
Soha Salamah
03:32:52 PM
Thanks, guys! Glad you can all hear us.
So to start I wanted to touch on the mission is definitely wrong. But I highlighted some really important. Parts of our mission. I like to say we enact social welfare through social work, so with a sort of with the grounding and social justice. So what that means is we, we work with diverse populations doing social work, which is a very broad field will go into that little bit more an weather with a Kohler sort of mindset of.
Justice and focusing on this sort of human well being activity so.
Our faculty and staff is really diverse. We have really awesome. Sort of diversity in faculty and staff and we also think they rank about 5% in the country in the MSW programs. So it's really amazing be working with faculty and staff who are.
Experts in their fields and faculty engage in a lot of different areas of research so if you're interested in research or just interested in working with really well, rounded for faculty definitely the place to go and and let's see, there's a lot of different structures of support, so there's field office. There's advisors will sort of get into that a little bit more when we talk about field and when we talk about programming and there's a lot of different.
Ways that you're supported really well, both in your field experience and also in your academic experience 0, one more. I think before we sort of get into more of the social welfare programs in social work social what we're all about, is our location. Definitely say you know why you Albany is definitely one of my reasons is because it's in the capital of new extinct so if you want to do micro or if you want to do macro.
Either one of them is like a really great place to do it, so in capital. You can do a lot of policies from things you want legislation something so you can also do a lot of individual clinical will talk a little bit more about what those really are in hardware in structure is your learning around those different areas.
So, like people, saying there's a lot of different things that you can do as a social worker and as a person with an MSW R programming is split into 2 different concentrations, so there's incredible concentration as well as a macro concentration in my chair able to with the clinical able to learn more in depth about different clinical treatments and.
Therapeutic interventions that can.
Go along with our very diverse populations and the different people who want to work with.
The macro concentration is more organizational structures and.
Working with organizations in in a different level than just one on one interaction. So you can do different coordinating positions and.
More administrative roles.
Like you see other presentation. There's a lot. You can do with the MSW and just being agents of change in whatever capacity we choose.
So our University is accredited by the council work of social work education to the CSMER program is 60 hours, 60 credit hours and the first thirty one roughly credits are more generalists so you'd be able to take.
Michael Kors Macro Policy Research and a human behavior. Of course, your first two semesters, so you can really get a feel about what?
So yeah, after your first year, you'd be able to choose your concentration and that concentration is the clinical or macro.
Hello everyone, so we talked a little bit about the specific MSW program model so that's in the end, that have said no social work. We are everywhere. You can find us in hospitals and schools and nursing homes in prisons anywhere where people are on people need services social workers are in there and so looking at the program models on there so many different ways.
Yeah, and then when is WWE at our school the 1st is non degree? I'm actually this is really designed for people were trying to test the water by social work education. These are people who don't really want to be there. I'm sure of social work is for them. Its ability to take courses or courses up to 12 credit hours in the school of social work without actually having to go through the full application and review process we're going to talk about that.
And the credit that you do take as not every student they do count towards your MSW should you decide to roll in the MSW applying involved with that program within 3 years in the next programme will talk about briefly is the full time program as a meeting, saying it's a 60 credit hour. Masters program full-time program is designed to take 2 years. Your first year is considered your generalist here and that you're you're taking courses that are really.
Addition loading boxes short education, so you're learning, some about micro practice about macro practice. Human behavior on research practitioners. Scientists that have scientist practitioner you're learning, some about social welfare policy in service as well, and you also begin your first year of the other instruction and lease is going to tell you all about it instruction in a little bit.
The second year of the full time program. You're in or we consider our concentration as increasing again when I called concentration from Accra Constitution, but 85% of our student body are incredible concentration would have like 1015% come back with concentration in the more recent years. We have seen increase in the macro concentration in certain political comments and certain changes in our environment. People are becoming more engaged in.
Making change at a broader society policy level and as in also your second year, you do have another year of construction, so clinical students are taking courses that are really centered around specific population groups are problem areas, such as you may take a course in social work practice children social practice with depression.
And macro concentration students taking courses online management organizational theory community building community organization. Some financial management as well. The goal is by the end of most 60 credit hours when you full time or part time. We are fully prepared to start your career as a practicing social worker on the part time program. It's really the two year program stretched out across 4 years.
Part time program is really designed for people who may be working full time or have a lot of competing demands in their life.
Working full time when I have several small children, home or just other reasons why we can't wait do the full time schedule in the part time program to start by virtue of taking 2 courses in fall in its brain. One course this summer in the second year of your part time program you in German field internship. You're taking corresponding course along with it in your 3rd year. It's again more coursework 9, moving into your Vance concentration and therefore.
Why don't hear you're finishing up your second year a field and?
Fast forward again, I could spend it was 4 years more ready to start your career in the advanced standing program advanced standing as a specific category. That's reserved for people who have a bachelors in social work. So I'll be A or BS in social work from credit program by credit. I need a program that spreading it by seat with DSW and what that doesn't happen abbreviated.
So for people who have BA or BS intention.
There are legible to have up to 21 credits from their undergraduate social equipment applied towards their Masters program so that means that 60 credit hours in the study program. It actually go down to about a 3939 level. The advanced standing program. In contrast to the full time part time program control for years you get standing program Section 1 calendar.
The students so far, a summer fall semester and spring semester and then there done and yeah. I said it right again. Standings do they actually start inside one of the common questions. We get our if I'm finishing my BS in my being social work in May and I still applied standing, which starts in the summer, you absolutely.
And we also have a number of dual degrees on dual degrees are degree programs that we partnered with in other disciplines or sometimes. Another College, University and we currently endure degrees in purple. Justice public health see an MSW PhD. Those are all with the University and all but we also have a dual degree with MSW GD program with online and In addition to.
Voice work in both social work and the other basically you're also taking having field practice. Not intern ships that are social work and also intersect intersection of the field work with the other disciplines.
Yeah, so I went on this slide before we go to the specialized few options. Maybe talk a little bit about how field works for these models as well.
Hello down every month after I wanted to speak with you about our field instruction model. It's usually one of the most exciting kind of aspects of the social worker education. People are very excited to kind of blow into the internships right and begin to kind of practice those social work skills that you're learning in the classroom. So just to give you a brief overview. While we still have the program model.
Don't instruction if your full time or part time student you will do what we call your first or generalist here of emplacement.
Julie on Mondays and Tuesdays of the week.
Impeachment is an 8 hour day or 2 days a week for 2116 hours a week. I don't know placement begins in September and ends in May.
So one of the most common questions that comes up is if I'm working right. I have other obligations outside of my education? How do I fix the bill education into my program and you know the tricky answer is that because this is a practice during the field education piece is hugely important, and it's mandatory so we do ask our students to make themselves available on those Mondays, and Tuesdays for their 8 hour field placement dates.
And we'd like to give people plenty of notice at that speed. You know the expectation so that you could work with employers health care providers. Whatever they need maybe so that you're available for that field practicum and the generalist field practicum is selected for you by the field education office. So our students field application. Or they tell my office about themselves? What types of work internship or volunteer experiences. They may have had in the past.
What you're still interested in learning about and you submit a resume to us that material to select a placement for you again in your generalist here that we feel will round out skills that you're already coming to us with.
Most units receive a healthy 20, there wasn't happy LinkedIn or impractical area that they have not worked with before and that's very purposeful and intentional to help our students. Students kind of learn to think outside the box and begin to work outside of the box because.
You know, I definitely came into soldier education, saying, I don't work with kids that that's what my experience was in in the foster care system and my first year field placement was actually with adults with mental illness and substance abuse issues, which I admit.
Scary at first, right, it was very overwhelming, but it was actually also a really big part of my journey because I ended up having to learn how that population intersected with.
The children's population that I would still interested in. It actually took my career in a different direction is I end up falling in love with that population and what I could really do with the parents of those children that have needed help, not just an example of why we use that model for your first or generalist field practice period.
And the general 6, Xperience is also designed to really give you a cross section of experiences on kind of all of the different foundational areas of social work such as duping takes in assessments, practicing engagement assessment with different and difficult populations.
Potentially winking you our clients with resources in the community developing those resources and actually going on site to different agencies and creating resources that you are home agency continues even after you leave to refer their clients systems to might run groups might meet 1 on one with clients. You might do home visits with clients were accompanied clients to doctors appointments to court appointments wherever they might need some kind of counseling and support.
Where you can still engage with family kind of assess and practice injury development those skills Max first field?
So it's not for moment about second field, which is your advanced concentration field placement for full timers that would be your second year and for part time where exactly are in their 4th year of study.
The second year field placement is designed to give you the opportunity to select your own field face facts in the area, or population that interests you.
So you will have selected a concentration or macro and the field of this actually holds a whole information session that literally kind of teaches you how to find the placement of your dreams in the Capital District area, or beyond, wherever you're resigning beholder. Fielding 70 or more agents on sites where campus meeting interact with them workshops. That kind of helps you around interviewing and building your resume.
Here to interview for this place so even if you have a generalist her first year placement that you feel wasn't your area of interest. You will still kind of wordless foundational and what we call transferable skill sets and then you have to select your second placement or background.
The second year placement is also 28 hour days per week for a total of 16 hours a week and 2nd year. Students are more often in field on Thursdays and Fridays. Those schedules can be adjustable primarily if there are different or better learning opportunities for you at the agency on a different day. But the field office in the academic office work together to make sure that you don't miss out on any required coursework because you're going to go to the field on some alternative day.
Just a question that often comes up so I thought I would mention that.
I think that's it for the general overview. So we go to the next slide. I can just give you a little bit more information.
These are some of our specialized field options that are available for students in their invidious concentration here, so for full timers that's your second year or part timers up through 4th year and this is the internship that you. Locate yourself based on your interest areas weather clinical or macro. So we have designed a couple of options for students who all apply to move through their degree requirements actually we have a summer block.
Where you can do your entire second word we have conservation field is not in one summer semester. You're in field 5 days a week. So it's very intensive and your schedule has to be clear to allow you to do that. But you would then need to feel requirements by the end of the summer semester.
We also have something that we call a modified block schedule where you can do a summer fall field placement. So it's the same idea to semester field placement? What you're doing that in the summer and fall might then power BI to graduate in December.
Those black placements their application only and there are prerequisites to be able to qualify and we go over. All that could be the Chris Lee kind of know early on whether or not you'll followed by to apply for a blacklist.
We also have a work study option. We know that many of our students are currently working in you know, Human Services or social service agencies. So there is a application process to do only one of your 2 field placements within the same place that you're currently working.
I don't want to get into too much detail but please. Do no, I got some of the questions that I get, so that you can know for your planning is that the field placement duties and assignments and tasks have to be significantly different than your current day-to-day tasks at the employment site. Yeah, you need to be supervised by someone other than your appointment supervisor.
So many other agencies have other branches other sites or locations. Other programs where we can still kind of create those boundaries between you as a student planner and you as an employee. But yet you can still be assisting the agency that you work for and that can really help your players by until I might need those 2 days to do feel right so we created this work study option again application only.
And there are a couple of specialized programs that we have for a dinner dance competitions. We haven't internships in aging program for those of you who are interested in working with the agent mentality population. There are clinical and macro opportunities in that program and there is a site that associated with the program because you know that you are expected to be in Field, 3 days a week for the aging program internship.
And there's an associated seminar with that that program.
Last but not least we have what we call the Albany introduce in mental health program are that aim program and so there are selected agencies that we requirements in evidence based short practice and second year students are assigned to apply for the ink program are assigned to those placements come out actually went certificate for completing that that program so if you really interested in mental health.
So every year we speak graduate several students from the Bible.
I think that's an overview Typo. Take your questions up. I'm sure they're coming in fast and furious about meal and I'm happy to answer all of them end of our program.
Exactly so a little bit by the PhD distinction between the MSW ever again as I said earlier. I'm really proud to be along with other MSW program and our PhD.
So one of the things I think that asset about the MSW program is that in social work. If you want to practice the MSW is considered the terminal.
So we're looking at women of agencies actually doing therapy being a practitioner. It's the MSW degree that is this difficult standard so with the MSW and then licensing which we know well prepared for. You know going through our program. We really do have the education and the credentials to be a private practitioner in New York City.
Now the doctor, the doctor in social work.
It's more on research point oriented degree a PhD in social work is going to prepare you for research in comparing you for teaching Academy or possibly be a CEO of information so it gets much more research and scholarship focus and not so much of the practice degree and that's one of the distinctive differences between other fields such as psychology psychology, the PhD.
In Psychology Congress have comedy it's very much for practice, forming degree. Now, some of you may have heard the DSW program on those are adopted such work program that is a very clinically focused doctorate program here at you always full social work. We do not have a DSW so we do have a PhD program again with very rigorous in terms of scientific method in research focus.
Practice or MSW as well, but most of the expertise on our practice.
Alright so going on into the application process so.
These are sort of the application materials for the MSW application applications for the full time and part time program are the same news click within the application portal. You let us know which program that you'd be interested in applying for so we require 3. References those references. We usually like you have speaking to your experience in Human Services or expensive working with people with potential for professional social work and your academic performance.
Now a lot of people say, I've been out of school for 10:15 twenty 3040 years.
How am I going to get somebody?
You know college professor to talk about my update formants. We say that's OK. So, just get another person to speak about one of those other areas that we're looking for so many years professional potential for professional social work or human service experience an likewise the other way around. If you're still in college like coming right out of college level work that much. You know somebody talked about your volunteer experience more your other experience like that so.
Let's see you also require your resume as well. And I'll post fixable transfers. So it's like both secondary Frenchman so say if you did a couple years at a college and then went to a different college ultimate loads and then we also asked me to do a personal statement as well so.
Do you speak German website um? List sort of the exact questions? The personal statement asks assembly a lot to consider and want to really think about my.
You know one sort of statement way of saying it is how do you looking at our mission? How do you already in that mission right now? How do you hope to do that while you're here at the school social welfare and then? How do you hope to carry that through and whatever you're doing afterwards you don't really need to know exactly what you want to do what you want. You want you to give us a sense of how you'll be able to sort of carry that mission through and so, if you can kind of really speak to that and allow.
Uh some of your own prior experiences to come through that would be really great really great way for to do that. In addition, this is also a space where you can also explain any outstanding things for application so saying well. You almost failed. Most of your first year of college like you know what happened or something like that. It's a great way to sort of balance personal statement as I sort of balance of personal story, telling you know what brings you here and also you know.
What brings a sort of professional storytelling? What brings you interested in these sort of social work profession so you can definitely see a lot more of those questions that the personal statement is based on our website there and you can click on that link to see so I just wanted to offer also tips think of them as kind of a secret sauce for people on the web and R about the application period, she talked about with free resumes and so.
Definitely even academic experience in service is very important, and sometimes it will say it is a challenge with people who've been working for awhile we now have in school? How do I get the academic reference. One is not agree study. It's always great when you're doing that as well. So you could do course again tester water in sexual education and then use that instructor as a possible reference so that's one possibility. I'm other things you could also try to ask your employer in their writing.
Reference for you to address some of those skills and would normally have an academic setting.
As a person talk about how what you're writing built? How do you meet deadlines? How are you interacting with your feet your peers so that you can try to recreate some of that the discussion of what happened to the actor academic environment and another type of reference life so that's just one that I wanted to share also with the personal statement. When I think about the application internals and what the school is kind of assessing.
Your work history is your work history, so the resume and references there really speaking about things that have happened in the past, staying with your transcripts. Those are about courses that you've already taken with personal statements really that opportunity to put your best foot forward and be more future oriented so don't be afraid to talk about why you're going into social work what you want to do with social work, but it's also OK if you don't know what you want to do in social work.
It should be another get another tip with us is it shouldn't really read like a resume. You don't want your personal statement to be written summary of your resume. This is really about integrating your education your experience is the mission of social work knowledge of the profession for you to let us know why you want to go into this profession that we value so much that we're also committed to him.
I'm so excited to share here.
Yeah, definitely as a student applying and writing the personal statement. I definitely went through so many different graphs and by the end of my friends were like. Maybe we don't want to see it anymore. It's important now is definitely helps developing here it is still saying really.
So additional application information. I also want to address here or something that we don't also have a scholarships as well. So I'll go through this and then also touch on scholarships. Dual degree so for dual degree students. If you're interested in the dual degree program say MSW pH or criminal justice. MSW would have to apply to both of those programs independently so that means making a MSW application and then making a MPH application.
making those independently if you're accepted into both of those then you'll be placed into the gold reprogram an and then I know Nigerians Jerry and interviews are not required for the MSW program. But they may be required for say the dual degree programs like.
You're applying to the criminal justice program, not sure but I think that they require GR ES so and they are also required for a pH D applicants and so I'd also just wanted to touch on this last slide before we go to questions and answers on scholarships. We have a lot of different scholarships. We offer scholarships. Bolton, the Graduate School for all graduate students, but also within the school social welfare and also there is many other external.
Russians outside rolling.
Some touch on those sort of 3 different areas, within the Graduate School itself. We have the Carson car diversity scholarship so that's sort of how do you bring diversity into your program so it's an MSW program and how do you bring that within the profession and so that's a scholarship had also fellowships. You also get to an assistantship in small talk a little bit more about system fix. That's that's a really main core one with a regular school. There's a few others you can also see on the.
Graduate scholarship page see within these folks welfare we offer a little over 40 different scholarships. Most of those are about 500. Two $4000, so there are little smaller and to apply for those if you're accepted first so you first if you're accepted then we'll sort of offer you some of these different will have a listing posting in mid March and you can apply for those it's usually just sort of like.
Paragraphs I respond to a question and there's 40 different sort of areas, so say if you want to work with children with families or if you want to work with elderly people like right now? How do you do this and this is the sort of application this is that scholarship war that interest group or so there's that and then there's also a assistantships. So it's working say 10 hours a week, you can do that.
Both within the sort of Graduate School, so you can say do an assistantship within sort of on the Uptown Campus and do sort of help out with super events and help set up and takedown and then this whole social welfare also has a very limited number of assistantships as well, mostly say working sort of demonstration or doing something out teachers with organizing things for classes, so that's the general overview for the Graduate School and also.
Not all social welfare there's also a lot of different opportunities that we have as well. Outside sort of external funding and you can also see some of those on the graduate.
All right and also, if you want to start an application if you haven't already you can click right there.

04:06:06 PM
Do you offer an online course
Soha Salamah
04:06:10 PM
Yes!
Yes, you do actually I had a feeling that with my mom. So I counted out. We currently offer 9 courses in an online environment. So 9 online courses completely MSW. This is different in this review. It says its 19 forces or of those horses are built instruction that needs to be talking about.
So we offered nine of the 19 on line currently and we're looking to add 2 more.
Soha Salamah
04:06:43 PM
we offer 9 of 19 credits online

Are there research scholarships available for Advanced Standing students?
Question further research scholarships available for advanced students.
So there are assistantships authorized weakness for advanced setting students you apply for those there was a application form that will be with the application and our website has been kind of re redone. We unlike side or is it kind of it's related missions, yeah, so there is.
So yeah, it's getting students are able to apply for it in the system.
So when you are submitting your application. I believe that's it quickly complied with the person part or for the other assistantship application. So if you're interested. You want to make sure that you're looking through the admissions materials and submitting the documentation that you're interested in either assistantship or Carson Palmer Fellowship and also for scholarships are scholarships are open to incoming students so as an advanced in student. Yes, she would be able to apply.
Already, the specific school of social welfare. It's one thing I will say about assistantships and fellowships upper man standing students man standing students start in summer.
The assistance assistantship or the fellowship may not start until.
Suggest me clear that you may have one term that's not covered. It also just to let you know afraid man. Standing you are scheduled to take 10 credits during the summer. That typically the minimum requirement, meaning it's not quite full time education. It's just below the cost of a full-time fish.
And uh the application for the correction card overseas college was just a tad bit earlier than our.
I'm application, I just want that is due on doing with 30th Carson car is to hunting rifle team and the assistantship application would be do with the application on criteria.
So those are kind of just the date someone.

What is the estimate for the tuition for and Advanced standing student including insurance costs?
Soha Salamah
04:09:50 PM
Tuition for full-time is a little over 7,000/semester for in-state and about double that for out of state students
Right so tuition for full-time students so 12 credits for more is around a little over say like little over $7000 a semester. If you're in state. It's about twice about if you're out of state and so you can say for about if you're doing all spring. That's about $15,000 if you're doing, and if your savior in advancing student you have full time in the fall full time in the spring.
And part time during the summer, so you'd have about $15,000 for that 15 for the full time for the fall in the spring and then the?
Soha Salamah
04:10:33 PM
Here it is: https://www.albany.edu/graduate/graduate-tuition-costs.php
The summer time you're taking about 10 credits it would be doing that 3 or $4000, yeah, yeah, yeah, so you can see so if you look up you Albany graduate tuition. There's a sort of a chart of credits and how many credits if you're taking and then sort of the semester. You can sort of see it's a bit of worksheet, but there's.
On one side there's MSW and then you can kind of go through say 10 credits. It's around like you know around $4000. Maybe 3000, so 410 credits so maybe I'm totally are spending. Eighteen $19,000 for the whole event. Setting just have to make sure that you were looking specifically at the MSW line because it's broken down, I believe only.
I also like the NBA is this different so it's not the regular graduate tuition cost. We have our own separate cycle right so the MSW has its own costs.

What is the acceptance rate into the Internships in Aging program?
So one of our team members runs into Canadian program and she interviews.
I want to say 15 students that are 5 per year and she's usually able to secure anywhere between.
From 10:13 internship opportunities that need the requirements for that program so it's a rather high acceptance rate.

Do you recommend taking time after undergrad to work before pursing an MSW or do you recommend going directly to grad school?
Do you recommend to in time after undergraduate to work before pursuing and honestly? Where do you recommend going straight to practice law?
I would say that's personal choice. Uhm you can go straight. I personally went straight from my undergraduate to my graduate program here at the University, but I also don't students that did it and it worked fine. I think if you want to have that background. Or maybe work in the field before joining the program. You absolutely can, but if you also feel like you're not.
You don't need the time off, you can also with the fields education portion of our program, you can.
Field as a field as active as if you were working in the field.
So I would say just like what you said. I think that's a very personal decision, but I guess. Some tips around what you might be thinking when you're trying to make that decision one would be.
I guess I would say maybe don't come to Graduate School for a Masters in social work degree. If you're not 100% sure yet that we want to be a social worker so like everyone else will say we don't have to know exactly what we want to do with our degree. It's a very versatile degree and you could figure that out.

how do you want to receive the references? (email, etc...)
During your degree program and afterwards my own journey has been completely different areas of social work practice throughout my whole career. That's fine. But some of the commitment to the values and kind of the mission of social work and social justice and I would also say I'm just assessing for yourself a readiness graduate education because it is different than undergraduate education in terms of the time commitment.
Soha Salamah
04:14:00 PM
In the application, you will put the information of your recommenders and they receive an email with a link where they upload the letters directly
In regular ways may be asked of you on your ability to kind of manage all those competing demands like crystals talking about with the field education. Of course were in all of our outside commitments and so that's sort of.
That works out wonderfully for many students would go straight through others need some time off and I did I took a year off because I couldn't decide between social work in psychology. and I had to figure out what was the difference and I'm glad I did that, but again that's a personal decision.
Is there different problems for fun stuff yuan in criminal justice program?
Rachel Scott
04:14:42 PM
Is there a different process for applying to the full time MSW/MA in criminal justice program? what are the requirements
Yes, I've been doing it all great you would have to apply safe for applying for the criminal justice on the MSW you would make an application for the asterism criminal justice and make an application as well for the Masters in social work and so you would have to meet the requirements of each of those applications and then it will be considered for each of those, and if you're accepted into both of those then you will be placed into into the dual degree program.

04:15:14 PM
Are there more than three references allowed?
Soha Salamah
04:15:22 PM
You can provide more than 3 references, but it is not required
It only Joy Program, I believe for the Masters in social work in criminal justice program is about one extra semester. Just threw that in a couple more formal lessons kind of classes more fit within that sort of Masters in social work and internships for the criminal justice. MSW building reprogram might be say working as a social worker on on a team of police officers. You know it's sort of responding to police calls.
Along with a police officer being this sort of social worker and it's a really important job to kind of add a social worker into that and so those are some sort of idea so.
Rachel Scott
04:16:06 PM
can we apply for a dual degree after we have already started taking classes in social welfare?
Soha Salamah
04:16:14 PM
that depends on the dual degree program
It depends on the dual degree program so some programs like the MSW JD with solving law. One of all below requirements is that 88 horses that are taken before you begin at the law school do not apply towards lottery so for that. One apply to both programs to be expected. Both programs before you start other programs like the MSW Masters in criminal justice. It is possible.
2 in your first Masters of your MSW or your final destination, sometimes even your first year, then decide you know what I am really interested in any other discipline and then to convert to the joint degree pending acceptance into the other program so it is possible for most I'd say the MSW. JD is the most restrictive. The thing that we're really looking for with those joint degree programs is to make sure that at least 1 semester.
It was worth is actually taking joint ever taken together, and that you don't get too far along in one program before you can actually start to integrate that field experience that combines both disciplines.

If some was to start off as a part-time student, but later decides that they would like to go full-time, can they switch?
Soha Salamah
04:17:41 PM
yes! the program is designed so that the first 2 years part time are equivalent to the first full year of full time study
Yes, actually we program design, so that the first two years. Part time are equivalent to the first year, a full time student so that's the most natural and make easiest place for people to switch from part time to full time actually that's what I did when I did my MSW program. Many many moons ago, I started part time with 2 years part time I'm like.
I'm going home at least one of those people who I had worked for a few years and I wanted to speed things up so I did 2 years. Part time and then I switch and did my last year full so yes, it's possible. It happens, happens. Quite a bit, but one thing that we do. Ask is you know when you try to track our students and had to figure out when people are going to be a field and so, if you do switch. It's really important to just have communication with Directive Advisors Department field office.
So that we can make sure there's enough placements in this matter.
I'm trying to add that it's also possible with a lot of communication. To actually go from full time to part time for a portion of your education. If you need to slow down for a minute so if you kind of identify. I'm really getting a lot of roadblocks. I can't do this anymore. We kinda say contact us instead of just saying I quit or we can talk with you have slow down your programming so that you can kind of.
My schedule for Monday through Friday.
Jefferson Basco
04:19:09 PM
for the msw full time program, what is the typical schedule? is it M-F ? how many days in a week and how many hours
So typically in a full time program you would have fields your first year Monday on Friday Monday and Tuesday and then your classes are generally scheduled for Wednesday Thursday and Friday if you choose to have different classes with the schedule you can maybe have classes in 2 days versus the 3 we typically lot of students are in class.
Soha Salamah
04:19:37 PM
Field would be Monday, Tuesday and classes Wednesday-Friday
Um Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and then field money to their first year.
Soha Salamah
04:19:52 PM
There are some evening and Saturday classes as well
I also add we also have classes on Saturday, 3 classes on Saturday and classes in the evening, so if you are looking at part time or you are full time. But it's better if you take classes say after your know once your kids get home from school or just while your kids in school, so it is possible to kind of adjust things like that passes in the evenings on the weekends or.
Is wondering if you will accept credits from a Human Services concentrations BS or via stuff?
So so I'm assuming those are undergraduate that we're talking about something only mechanism that we have in place for undergraduate credits are accepted towards a Masters degree is through that advancing it. So it is actually only credits from the BA or BS. In short order credit program that can be counted towards the Masters.
Now sometimes students will have experience or taking course working undergraduate.

04:21:18 PM
Hello, I am wondering if your program will accept credits from a human services concentration, not a BS or BSW program? To be more specific, I am graduating from SUNY New Paltz in May 2020 with a degree in Sociology with a concentration in human services. **Next question** Just to be clear there are two full academic year field placements? The first is chosen for you and the second is your choice?
No, I'm training and background and they don't necessarily want to take a course over him. If they've already taken a small course, so we do have options when you exempt out of certain courses. So we haven't assumptions and some people also comma waiver and those are for course or for tablets of Social Welfare policy and services.
She will be here, one which is looking at the typical development of individuals and groups.
Soha Salamah
04:21:37 PM
There are opportunities to exempt out of a course, but to receive credit, you must have graduated from an accredited BSW program
It may be here, too, which incidentally are psychopathology force and also research which is really introduction to social scientists so if you in human element agree if you have in coursework in Pecos. Here you can take take exemptions, which is offering usually getting a summer an ending summer writing orientation. Can you pass the exam you don't have to take the corresponding course you do need to replace the Reds?
So it's still a 60 credit in the study program just need to get you extra electives that you can take other social recourses or actually take courses in other graduate programs last years.
Is that tourist just to be clear? There are 2 full academic year field placements. The person shouldn't be in seconds, your choice that's exactly correct.
What do we know whether we got accepted or not into the program don't fit except?
Jefferson Basco
04:22:43 PM
when do we know whether we got accepted or not in the MSW program? and if we dont get accepted, what's the best option to still take this route?
Soha Salamah
04:22:54 PM
it takes about 6-8 weeks to hear back on an admission decision
Now we know so you'll hear about six eight weeks. It takes to hear back and that's whether or not you are accepted. An so saying if you are accepted. Then we'll sort of get you some more information on this kind of class is ready for field and will be working with you, a little bit more on that. You aren't accepted but you still are like I really want to do social work I would definitely encourage you to.
Soha Salamah
04:23:26 PM
If you aren't admitted, you can do non-degree courses and then reapply to the program
Consider me the non degree program and think about taking a couple classes. You know really show us that you really dedicated to learning and get connected with maybe some of the professors and then reapply again. Our application cycle is only really the only acceptable for the fault. So you don't have to reply again will basically at this time. Another year but I think that you know, taking classes or not I did not agree student can really get you ahead.
In the program and you can either you will finish earlier or have a little lighter load, while you're keeping your accepted after you do that I'm not agree program so.

Who can we contact in regards to scholarships and assistance-ships?
Soha Salamah

graduate@albany.edu
Definitely scholarships and assistantship's, if you're interested in them in the school of social welfare. You can follow up with us at the SW help and you can also see it on our website. If you're interested within the Graduate School itself. You can definitely follow up with the Graduate School and you can take a look at the scholarships page. At the Graduate School take a look around. If you have anymore questions. The contact there is.
Yeah, I think I just want to end it and I don't know if you can necessarily come through and it wasn't hard, but you know when you're at the school. It's not like your number you're really important part of our social work community. At the school I don't value our students. So much for JS we try to get to know them sometimes you know, too much.
And that's the part I think that doesn't come across well in the web and R format. Percent is that we like to learn with our students. We like to laugh with our students. We're really trying to maintain it very engaged environment that is just made it to social work and social justice, so economic social economic environment consist.
